The Benefits of Cupping

What is Cupping?

One of the most famous Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Therapies in the world is called “Cupping”. It is performed by using a cup to act as a suction medium. The cup is made from either glass or bamboo placed on the skin (usually the back) to disperse and break up stagnation and congestion by drawing congested blood to the surface. This technique is focused on the line of meridians or also known as ‘Qi’ throughout our body. The back is where the central line of the nervous system is located, therefore, cupping therapy can have a huge impact on the nervous system as well. Cupping gives different effectiveness not only on the physical aspect of the body but also the energy channel which will also affect our mood and feelings too.

Western Approach on Cupping

Cupping is now known for its use in western massage therapy or physiotherapy. This therapy is getting more recognition when the news showed that even sportsmen and  Olympians had cupping marks on their backs when they were in competition. Westerners have more direct approach and view on cupping. It is used in the treatment to treat different types of muscle tensions from shoulder pain, neck pain to lower back pain. It is also used on chest, knees and legs.
